Twenty years after being donated to the municipality of Cascais, the Casa Reynaldo dos Santos and Irene Quilhó dos Santos opened its doors to the public as a new cultural and scientific hub in Parede. From now on, it also bears the name Maria de Sousa Science and Art Research Centre, thanks to the archive donated to the municipality by the renowned immunologist, author and professor, who passed away in 2020.

For years, the 1930s building - with an Art Deco style - underwent extensive rehabilitation works, in a project with a municipal investment of one million and 600 thousand euros led by architects Nuno Simões and Sérgio Rebelo. In addition to the restoration of the interior and exterior spaces, a new building was constructed, where a multipurpose room, an archive area for Maria de Sousa's collection, and a set of sanitary facilities were installed. A housing unit intended for scientific research residences was also built.

The space also houses the personal archive of Reynaldo dos Santos and Irene Quilhó dos Santos, as well as their sons, João Carlos and Luís Alberto Quilhó Jacobetty. It consists mainly of documentation specialized in the fields of Medicine, Art History, and Literature - in a collection that is simultaneously bibliographic, archival, and photographic.

The Maria de Sousa Science and Art Research Centre will be open to the public as a documentation center, and the idea is also to host events such as book launches, academic thesis presentations, conferences, or exhibitions within the scope of the collections present in the space.
