In this list of the 75 best hotels in Lisbon, none other can brag of a Rua Augusta location.

Pastry shops, stores, outdoor cafés, bars, restaurants, major apparel brands, traditional businesses, street performers, florists... a lot of people moving around all day long. It certainly is not a quiet street, neither is it one of our favourites, but it is a Lisbon mainstay. Inside the hotel, a friendly staff helps the location feel comfy, but the Augusta Boutique Hotel also aims to be recognized for its tasteful decoration. Their furniture is well chosen, a retro-chic mix of vintage and design pieces that does not overwhelm.

Essentially a bed & breakfast in terms of service, there are few common areas, with the exception of a terrace, from which you can see the castle hill. The 12 rooms are the centrepiece of the hotel: they too have an irreverent aesthetic, with tapestries by the bedposts, wooden panels on the walls and wonderfully curated vintage furniture contrasting with the monochrome.

Breakfast comes with a catch: there is no specific room to have it. You can either enjoy it on the terrace or in your room at no extra cost. There is a multitude of dining options right outside your door.  To avoid the shopping hubbub, walk towards the Cais do Sodré and choose a world cuisine: there are pizzerias, Mexican restaurants, an Irish pub, a steakhouse and shellfish restaurants. Just make your pick.
